Tehran Peace Museum Commemorates Int’l Day of Peace

Tehran – The Tehran Peace Museum (TPM) in cooperation with the International Council of Museums and Council for Promotion of the Culture of Peace for Children marked International Day of Peace at the National Museum of Iran on 20 September 2017. The UNIC Director Maria Dotsenko’s at the ceremony highlighted that the theme for 2017’s International Day of Peace is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”

Tehran – The Tehran Peace Museum (TPM) in cooperation with the International Council of Museums and Council for Promotion of the Culture of Peace for Children marked International Day of Peace at the National Museum of Iran on 20 September 2017.

The UNIC Director Maria Dotsenko’s at the ceremony highlighted that the theme for 2017’s International Day of Peace is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”

She added that the theme honors the spirit of TOGETHER, a global initiative that promotes respect, safety and dignity for everyone forced to flee their homes in search of a better life. 

Dotsenko said that the campaign: TOGETHER unites the UN Institutions, the 193 UN Member States, the private sector, civil society, academia and individuals in a global partnership in support of diversity, non-discrimination and acceptance of refugees and migrants.

She also spoke about various Iranian initiatives aimed to promote peace and to counter violent extremism.

Afterwards, the video message UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on International Day of Peace was screened for the audience.

Head of Cultural Heritage Research Institute Engineer Seyyed Mohammad Beheshti spoke about peace in yesterday and today’s communities and emphasized on the role of youth.

Then, the members of Avaye Solh Theater, namely Nika Afkari, Kiana Haji Taleb, Livia Atghavi and Sogol Ziaee, led by Ms. Nazli Bakhshayesh performed a play on peace.

University professor Dr. Omid Forotannejad spoke on peace, as the common language of all ages.

 

Navaye Solh band The puppet show group of Children Book Council

Mr. Ali Akbar Fazli from the TPM delivered the statement attributed to the three organizers of the ceremony namely Tehran Peace Museum, International Council of Museums and Council for Promotion of the Culture of Peace for Children.

At the end of the ceremony “Navaye Solh”, traditional music band perform pieces on peace from Khayyam, Molana and other renowned Iranian poets.

In addition, the puppet show group of Children Book Council performed a puppet show with Waldorf method for the participants.

UN promotional materials were distributed to the participants.
