Iranian youth learn more about peacekeeping, peacebuilding and culture of peace

Tehran – A workshop on peacebuilding and research on peace and security as well as the culture of peace was held for some twenty students on 17 May 2018 at the UN office in Tehran. The workshop was organized on request of the Revamp Talent Management Agency. The participants were briefed about retrieving information, data and documentation with a focus on peacekeeping issues and the Security Council resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security. They were also provided with copies of the UN Charter and the UN System Chart.

The workshop was organized on request of the Revamp Talent Management Agency.  The participants were briefed about retrieving information, data and documentation with a focus on peacekeeping issues and the Security Council resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security.

They were also provided with copies of the UN Charter and the UN System Chart.  

UNIC Reference Assistant, Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani, elaborated on an overview of the Security Council and UN Peacekeeping including where they operate, how they are funded and on contributors of troop and police. She emphasized that: “Peacekeeping has proven to be one of the most effective tools available to the UN to assist host countries navigate the difficult path from violent conflict to peace.”

UNIC Intern Ms. Shadi Rouhshahbaz elaborated on the relation between culture and peacebuilding with a focus on intercultural dialogue as a means of conflict resolution.

 

 

Participants were divided into three groups to apply their peacebuilding skills and use dialogue to resolve a simulated conflict.

They were briefed on access to international youth opportunities, UN internships and careers via the UN and UNIC websites.
