IRCS YOUTH ORGANIZATION HEAD PLEDGES TO ‘PROTECT THE GOAL,’ SIGNS JOINT WORK PLAN WITH UNFPA
TEHRAN – 18 June 2014 (UNIC) -- Dr. Vahid Ghobadi Dana, the Head of the Youth Organization of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Wednesday signed a pledge to Protect the Goal, a joint UNAIDS/UNFPA campaign. On the same occasion, Dr. Ghobadi Dana also signed the new joint work plan for 2014 with UNFPA.
Protect the Goal raises awareness of HIV prevention and is being launched worldwide to coincide with the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Through pledges, the campaign encourages young people to get actively involved in both the national and global response to HIV.
Dr. Ghobadi Dana explained the Youth Organization’s different programmes, and spoke about opportunities for working with the UN, and getting involved in the Protect the Goal campaign. At the signing, it was agreed that UNFPA and UNAIDS, along with Dr. Ghobadi Dana, will also attend a national youth camp, held after the holy month of Ramazan as part of the campaign.
Dr. Fardad Doroudi, UNAIDS Iran Country Director, says that, “Protect the Goal is a way of rallying young people around an effective response to HIV/AIDS. We are very excited to have the support of IRCS’ Youth Organization and Dr. Vahid Ghobadi Dana, as youth is at the core of the Protect the Goal campaign.”
According to Dr. Hulki Uz, UNFPA Representative, “UNFPA is very pleased to sign the new joint work plan with IRCS’ Youth Organization for the year 2014. The focus of our work this year will be to enhance the capacity of the Youth Organization, by supporting training of trainers for youth volunteers on reproductive health in emergencies. This will enable the Youth Organization to provide training to all volunteers at a national level.”
